Story for final OTS

After having feedback from our classmates, we decided to film again. The main reason for this is because the audience wanted to know why the man was running away from something, and what that something was. We when decided as a group to add a clip to the start of our OTS to show why the man was being chased. After filming and uploading to the computer, we realised that the small clip was roughly 2 minutes, so we may need to trim it slightly!

Semiotics

Semiotics is the use of a sign or signifier in a media presentation, its the way a symbol is used by a director etc to signify something in the production, such as an alley way is used alot in scary films and has now become a signifier as we are used to an alley way leading to danger. when semiotics is applied it is used to raise awareness of the subconsious effects of the image, such as a gun doesn't just signify a gun to americans it signifies manlyness and pride and patriotism, this is because different signs mean different things to different cultures. to have the effect of semiotics in our OTS we are using an alley way in our OTS as it instantly signifies something bad is going to happen and therefore creates tension for our OTS which fits well for our film noir theme.

Progress of our new OTS

Today we recorded the starting of our OTS. After watching our original OTS, we felt as if there was a big chunk missing from it. We had some feedback from the class and they asked why the character got shot, and who by. We finally thought of adding a clip before, showing why the man shoots the other character, giving the audience more of a story to relate to. We will record the rest of our film thursday morning. This will work well as the brightness will have changed. This will work because the next clips are set a few days later.

We filmed in an alley way in Sprowston. This is where the first shooting takes place. We have included many different camera angles/shots. These include, closeups, extreme closeups, pans, tracking, over the shoulder, point of view, and some canted angles.

Thursday we are planning on just improving our original OTS. Firstly we will have a tripod to steady our shots. We have now also got better props such as the gun! We will use a wider range of camera techniques, and more closeups.

Re-recording our OTS

After filming/editing our OTS, we've decided as a group to film again as we believe we could have done better. Learning from our mistakes, we will use a Tri-pod for when its needed e.g. Panning etc. We will be recording tomorrow morning as we have monday mornings off! We have also managed to take more props such as a BB Gun etc.
